2/28/07 update
Hi all. Everyone is doing fine. Alex keeps increasing on his feedings. Zach is doing better with his breathing and his feedings are increasing also. Liz is having some minor trouble processing all of her feedings, but that's normal with preemies, so nothing to worry about. The big thing of the day was that we got to "kangaroo" with Alex and Liz. Kangaroo Care is holding the baby on our bare chests and our bodies provide the heat to keep them warm. It's a bonding experience highly recommended by the hospital.

2/24/07 update
Not much new to report today. About the only thing of note is Alex is now without any breathing accessories. His nose cannula was removed today. It was great to see his face without anything stuck in it. The next time we see him he will have the adhesive patches removed and we'll see his entire face! Zach is still improving, it's just at his own pace. Liz didn't have anything new to report today and she was just fed before we got there so didn't disturb her.

2/23/07 - Zach
Zach didn't have much new when we got to the hospital today. He still has the prongs, but is improving. His feedings were increased. And may get the prongs removed soon if he continues to improve. When weighed today he had lost about two ounces from his birth weight, which is about what is expected.
2/23/07 - Liz
The news on Liz when we arrived at the hospital today was a great surprise. They had already removed her prongs in favor of the nose canula. She was being given only a small amount of oxygen. And she started on feedings yesterday. As can be seen in the first picture below she's much more comfortable now that the prongs are out. Also, her current weight is the same as when she was born.
2/23/07 - Alex
Alex was doing fine at our visit today. He got a central line put in his arm to match his brother and sister. He was going to be getting a new isolet (weekly occurrence) after we left. And his feedings continue to increase. Jen and I both got to hold him again today. Also, Alex has gained about two ounces since being born.

2/22/07 status update
Jen was discharged from the hospital on 2/21. On 2/22 we went to visit the kids and found out the head ultrasounds had been done with good preliminary results. Because of this we were both allowed to hold Alex the first time. What an awesome feeling! He continues to pave the way for his sister and brother being the first to do everything. His feedings are increasing and he's doing well with them.
Liz had her breathing tube removed on 2/21. She was happy about that but didn't like their replacement (nose prongs) at all. By the time we visited on 2/22 she was dealing with them much better. She may begin feedings the next day or two. Currently, she is just receiving nutrients by IV.
Zach still has his prongs in and still needs a little help to breathe on his own, but is doing well. He began feedings on 2/21 and is doing well with them. The boys also are getting nutrients by IV, but these will be reduced as the amount of milk they are given increases.
